BIOBAN cabinets produced by Steril are designed and manufactured to fulfil and satisfy the European Norm EN12469.
Routinelly used in laboratory of microbiology, virology, haematology and cell culture.
Furthermore, used in innovative fields of scientific research and above all in the manipulation of:

Command and Controls
Air ventilation control by means of automatic regulation of the revolution velocity of the motor blower. One high-resolution flow rate volumetric device, directly interfaced to microprocessor, achieves the automatic regulation. The microprocessor guarantees the activity of the motor blower and controls the optimal function even in presence of effects caused by progressive clogging of the HEPA filters.
Alarm device optical (red signal light visible from working position and display message) and acoustic (buzzer) type, activated, at real time, by the microprocessor, showing the kind of alarm on a wide alpha numeric display.Monitoring with alarms of the following parameters:

Operator Protection
The containment index, evaluated on the total surface of the front working opening, is equal or less than 5 CFU for not disturbance test or Apf equal or more than 1 x 105 according EN12469.
Product Protection
Sterility in the working area higher than ISO Class 5 according to ISO EN 14644 (Class 100/M3.5 according to Federal Standard 209E) @ 0.3 and 0.5 μm particles. Equal or less than 5 CFU per test, according product protection test EN12469 and Equal or less than 2 CFU per test, according cross contamination test EN12469.
Environmental Protection
By filtration of the exhaust air through H14 HEPA filter with efficiency 99,995% MPPS as per EN 1822 (EU14 with efficiency 99,999% tested with DOP/DOS @ 0.3 μm). It is suggested, except for particular cases, to duct outside the exhaust air as recommended by DIN 12980.
Command and Controls

Steril – Powder Safe
This POWDER SAFE cabinet is a vertical laminar flow in ISO 5 Class according to ISO EN 14644-1 @ 0,3 and 0,5 m particles size (Class 100/M3.5 according to Federal Standard 209E). The cabinet is designed with part of air recirculated and part of air exhausted outside the equipment through H14 HEPA filters (according to EN 1822).
The operating cycle described above together with an inflow air barrier assure a slight depression and, therefore, isolation from the surrounding area.
Application
The identified and carefully estimated factors considered as essential, with particular reference to process and safety requirements, are:
• protection of the product;
• protection and safety of the operator;
• containment of handled product;
• cleanness of working area;
• ergonomic factors.
The operator and the environmental protection and product safety from cross contamination are obtained by appropriate flows permanently monitored by a microprocessor automatic control system.
The operator and the environmental protection are achieved exhausting 40% of air through an HEPA filter. This maintains the cabinet in negative pressure and creates an air barrier of more than 0,40 m/s. The recirculation of the remaining 60% of the air on the working area in laminar air flow condition at a mean 0,30 m/s through another HEPA filter guarantees the cleanness of the working area, avoiding cross contamination and any perturbation or dispersion of dust.
Moreover the specific construction of the cabinet, special fixing devices on the fan together with a marble anti-vibration support (optional) allow the use of balance for measures up to 0.01 mg.Standard features

Steril – TOPFLOW 2 Mobile LAF cabinet for laboratory animal cages emptying
Top Flow 2 is a single fan cabinet manufactured like a Class I microbiological safety cabinet with inward air velocity more than 0.80 m/s, 100% exhausted through an HEPA filter and visual/acoustic alarms in compliance to European standard EN 12469: 2000. Top Flow 2 is designed for emptying out and cleaning of cages, in a sterile area, with protection given to operator and environment. The unit is supplied with one garbage trolley with stainless steel wheels.

Steril – TOPFLOW 3 Mobile LAF cabinet for LAB animals cages changing
Top Flow 3 is a double fan, double side operated vertical laminar airflow cabinet, with partial recirculation. This unit is manufactured like a Class II microbiological safety cabinet with 0.40 m/s mean LAF velocity, front opening inward air velocity more than 0.40 m/s and visual/acoustic alarms in compliance to European standard EN 12469: 2000.
Top Flow 3 is specifically designed for manipulating and passing of mice or other experimental animals, from dirty cages to clean cages, in a sterile area, with protection for operator, animal and environment. An electrical driven lifting system of the whole cabinet allows the optimum ergonomic worker posture.

Steril – VBH Compact
VBH Compact cabinets produced by Steril are designed to fulfill and satisfy the European Norm EN12469 and country standards (presently superseded by EN12469) like German DIN 12950/10, French NF44-201 and English BS 5726.
VBH Compact cabinets are manufactured with a frontal working opening for the aspiration of 30% of the total air involved, at a minimum velocity of 0,40 m/s, and the remaining 70% is recirculated through a HEPA filter in the working chamber with a mean laminar flow velocity of 0,40 m/s (as defined by European standard EN 12469: 2000). The containment index, evaluated on the total surface of the front working opening, corresponds to APF (Aperture Protection Factor) equal or more than 1 x 105 according EN12469. The microprocessor monitors in real time all critical parameters of the unit (laminar air flow velocity, exhaust flow rate and position of the front screen) and controls the optimal function of the fans even if in presence of effects caused by progressive clogging of the HEPA filters.
